Design

Monokai is a male hellhound (demon-dog hybrid, no specific breed), male, mid-late 20s, athletic build.

He is inspired by and named after the Monokai color scheme, which is popular among software developers for its high contrast and vibrant colors.

Monokai's design is intended to be visually striking and display strong contrast of bright, vivid color against a solid background, and is influenced by mid-2000s "sparkledog" design trends.

The base layer of his fur is purely grayscale - mostly black and white with some shades of gray. The colorful markings on his fur are taken from the Monokai color palette. Deviation for lighting and shading are allowed. Gradients between colors are allowed but solid saturated colors should only ever touch black/white/gray.

Anywhere on Monokai's body with color, as well as his blood and internal flesh, is also an emissive light source, the brightness of which varies with his mood.

The shape of the colorful patterning is abstract and has no specific defined shape. This is intended as a canvas for artists' creative liberty.

If you are being commissioned to draw this character, you have full artistic liberty to play with the design, unless otherwise specified by the commissioner.

Personality

While all of my characters reflect aspects of my personality, Monokai is the closest to (an aspirational interpretation of) my real self.

Monokai is confident, intelligent and primarily motivated by seeking justice and restoring balance to his world.

Inspiration

Monokai's demonic elements are inspired by the Doom video game series.
